Basic English 9

Welcome to English 9!

Week of 10/15 - 10/18

This week, students will test on Act II of Romeo and Juliet. We will then watch the movie section that goes along with Act II. Next, students will move onto the longest section of the play: Act III. Students will receive multiple hand-outs in class to help them understand the unfolding action involved in Act III.

Week of 10/7 - 10/11

Students will finish up reading Act II of Romeo and Juliet this week in class. We will have a quiz on this section of the play next week, and students will move onto the next act.

Week of 9/30 - 10/4

We are continuing reading Romeo and Juliet this week in class. Students are acting out the play in class and filling in the study guide questions as we progress. We will have a quiz on the first act of the play this week.

Week of 9/23 - 9/27

This week we are beginning to read The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet this week in class. When we are finished reading Act I, we will have a test on this act. The play is broken up into 5 acts. We will have a test after each act.

Week of 9/16 - 9/20

We will be finishing up our introduction to Shakespeare this week in class. Students will have a quiz on Wednesday. We will then begin reading "Romeo and Juliet."

Week of 9/9 - 9/13

Students will be learning about the life and times of William Shakespeare and the Globe Theatre this week in class. A quiz on this material will be coming up.

Students will go on a "Web Quest" to explore Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and will receive a quiz grade for doing this. They will also watch a video that presents evidence that Shakespeare may not have written the works he gets credit for.

 

Week of 9/2 - 9/6 

For this class, students will need a 3-ring binder. Students are responsible for turning in their survey and returning a signed copy of the syllabus by Tuesday, September 3.
Students will be reading a piece of nonfiction and a piece of fiction this week and comparing the two texts. Students will answer questions as a class and in small groups about each of these texts.
